A newly married Manhattan couple drowned on their honeymoon in the Caribbean last week – just four days after tying the knot, a new report said.

26-year-old corporate lawyer Muhammad Malik and his 29-year-old Dr. Noor Shah, a surgeon in town, died on October 28 during their honeymoon at a resort in the Turks and Caicos Islands, family members told Newsday.

“It’s a devastating loss,” Malik’s father, Maqbool Malik, told the newspaper.

“This is an incredible shock. And it is a tragedy of various dimensions when two children have to be buried together. ”

The couple, who lived in Manhattan, had been swimming in chest-high waters at the resort near Como Parrot Cay when they were overwhelmed by strong tides, Maqbool Malik said.

The groom’s father condemned the resort for the lack of signs warning swimmers of possible floods.

“They were really in love with each other,” said Maqbool Malik.

“The kind of chemistry we saw in these two people was amazingly fascinating. You loved each other. ”

The couple married in East Meadow, Long Island.

A funeral for the couple is scheduled for Sunday in New Jersey.

Their bodies are due to arrive in New York the day before, the report says.

The groom graduated from Cornell University and worked for Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP in Manhattan. His wife was a fourth year surgeon at NYU Langone Health.
