The police today arrested two more suspects in the case of threatening the Rotterdam Emmaus College and a teacher from that school. It concerns a 17-year-old boy from Amsterdam and an 18-year-old man from The Hague. They are suspected of threats and incitement.
Yesterday an 18-year-old woman from Rotterdam was already arrested in the investigation. She is now free again, but is still a suspect in the case. The police and the Public Prosecution Service suspect that she has posted a message on social media, as a result of which she has incited others to commit criminal offenses against the school and the teacher.
Earlier this week it became clear that a teacher from the school is being threatened and has gone into hiding for showing a cartoon in class. The cartoon by Joep Bertrams shows a decapitated man in a Charlie Hebdo shirt sticking out his tongue at the jihadist who just decapitated him.
The cartoon in question had been hanging in the classroom for five years, but came back into the spotlight because the school paid attention to the murder of the French teacher Samuel Paty. On Tuesday, the school announced in a letter that a photo of the cartoon was posted on Instagram and was shared a lot afterwards. The school management wrote with the message that in that photo the context “completely disappeared”.
