Honors have been received for a father and son who died in a fishing tragedy.

Tom and Martin Oliver of The Claddagh in Galway City died following the incident on Monday.

And members of the RNLI Lifeboat Station in Galway were among the first to express their condolences.

They wrote on : “We are deeply saddened by the news of Martin & Tom Oliver’s death.

“Our crew and the entire team extend our condolences to the Oliver family, especially our crew members and many friends. May Martin & Tom rest in peace.

While Glaway City Mayor Mike Cubbard added, “A dark cloud hangs over the city tonight as the sudden departure of two masters has left a void in so many people’s lives.

“Martin and Tom Oliver will be missed very much. A few weeks ago, I held a mayor reception recognizing the heroism of all those who go to the sea in a time of need. Martin and Tom were two of those people.

“The Claddagh ward, but a far greater reach that includes the Oliver and Griffin families, mourn deeply tonight. My condolences, thoughts and prayers go to the families of both men, their neighbors and their friends as they try to come to terms with this tragic loss. ”

While Tom and Martin’s family have confirmed that their funeral details will be revealed in the coming days.

In a post on RIP.ie it says: “Father and son, Martin and Tom Oliver suddenly died after a fishing accident and deeply mourn their heartbreaking, grieving family and friends.
