Australian satirical comedy group The Chaser has not been verified on Twitter and has been suspended for impersonating Donald on election day.

On Tuesday evening (AEST) around 9:30 pm, the comedians changed the name of their @chaser account to “Donald J Trump” and replaced their avatar with a picture of the president. Then they tweeted, “Don’t choose me,” I’m a massive idiot. ‚

At the time, millions of Americans were going to their local polling station to vote for either incumbent Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden.

In response to the prank, Twitter verified the @chaser account, presumably out of fear that American voters would believe Trump had actually given up on the president’s race.

Later the account was completely blocked. When a user tries to access the profile, he receives the message: ‘Account locked. Twitter blocks accounts that violate Twitter rules. ‚

The chaser was likely banned from Twitter for violating the website Identitätswechselpolitik, which states that accounts must not appear “confusing or misleading as any other person, brand, or organization”.

Violation of these rules can result in an account being permanently banned.

However, the impersonation policy makes exceptions when it comes to “parody” content – which means the pursuer’s account may have been wrongly banned.

As soon as Twitter detects that the account is supposed to be satirical, the profile will most likely be restored with the confirmation of the blue tick.

“We understand why Twitter would do this,” said The Chaser website editor Cam Smith. “After all, it wouldn’t be uncommon for Trump to tweet something so extraordinary. If anything, this would have been one of his more sensible tweets so we could see how people could get confused. ‚

Twitter’s “impersonation policy”

Impersonation is a violation of Twitter’s rules. Twitter accounts that impersonate another person, brand, or organization in a confusing or misleading way may be permanently banned under Twitter’s impersonation policy.

Accounts with similar username or appearance (such as the same profile picture) do not automatically violate the impersonation policy. To violate our impersonation policy, the account must mislead or mislead another entity.

However, Twitter users can create parody, newsfeed, comment or fan accounts.

Those:: Twitter rules

“It’s impressive that it took Twitter only 20 minutes to uncheck our account as it took nearly four years to verify the actual president,” added Smith.

“I think that’s to be expected. We all know the words of comedians are far more dangerous than those of the man who controls 50 percent of the world’s nuclear weapons.

The controversial comedy troupe is no stranger when it comes to engaging international politicians.

In 2007, members of the group dressed as Osama bin Laden were arrested outside the hotel where George W. Bush was staying after driving a fake Canadian motorcade into the APEC conference to demonstrate the futility of the event’s security.
