Maradona, 60, was transferred to a medical center in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, on Monday, where he was suffering from anemia and dehydration.
Later, Maradona was transferred to another medical center for the surgery.
His personal physician, Leopoldo Locke, said the operation was “successful”, adding that Maradona endured the operation “well”.
The former player is currently subject to observation.
