Two Turkish MMA hero fighters were wounded while escorting an elderly woman and an injured police officer to safety when an ISIS rifleman opened fire in Vienna.
A shooter opened fire on drinkers who were sitting in beer gardens near the city’s main synagogue on Seitenstettengasse last night.

Violence and bloodshed erupted over the next hour as the police used every officer they could on at least six crime scenes.
The shooter, armed with an assault rifle and wearing a fake bomb vest, was shot dead when four people were killed and another 22 injured.
Friends Recep Tayyip Gultekin and Mikail Ozer were downtown when they heard gunshots.
The couple ran towards the danger and saw the shooter shoot.
Recep took an injured woman to safety in a restaurant before he was shot by the rifleman.
Recep told the Turkish news broadcaster Ahaber: “When I turned around, the terrorist took cover, we agreed on the shooting, and when I met this eye there was no fear or doubt in me.
“There I rolled on the floor with the reflex my brain had given me and ran, running in a zigzag and down the stairs and went to the police building and told me what had happened.”
Both men then went to the police station to report what had happened, but then they saw an injured police officer who they were carrying to the ambulance 200 meters away.
What we know so far:
- The attack was carried out in six locations in downtown Vienna
- Four dead – two women and two men
- 22 injured – six are fighting for their lives and one injured police officer is in stable condition
- An armed man was shot dead when Home Secretary believes there is no evidence of another attacker
- Deadly shooter named ISIS supporter Kujtim Fejzulai
- Fejzulai reportedly announced the attack on Instagram and was previously detained for attempting to go to Syria
- Two Turkish MMA fighters brought a woman and an injured police officer to safety
They also helped move an elderly woman to a safe place in the middle of the chaos.
Recep, who suffered from a gunshot wound to his foot, refused to seek medical help.
He told the Turkish news agency Anadolu: “I didn’t want to go to the hospital because the wound on my foot wasn’t that big.
“I didn’t want to be a burden because I thought there would be a lot of injuries due to the conflict.”
Austria’s Chancellor condemned it as a “hideous terrorist attack” when officials ordered residents to stay inside.
The police are now trying to put what happened and track down the rest of the attackers.
Austria’s Interior Minister Karl Nehammer described the dead suspect as an “ISIS sympathizer” and said the evidence collected so far showed no evidence that there was a second attacker.
However, previous reports suggested there was more than one shooter.
Mr Nehammer said 14 people were arrested in connection with the attacks.
Special forces from neighboring countries were deployed to assist with the operation, and the suspect’s home was searched and videos were seized.
One of the suspects reportedly announced the attack on Instagram and pledged allegiance to ISIS leader “The Professor” Abdullah Qardash, reports Bild.
The shooter, known as Kujtim Fejzulai, is said to be a 20-year-old dual citizen of Austrian and North Macedonian citizens who was previously detained for attempting to travel to Syria.
The Austrian government confirmed that the alleged Viennese attacker had already been sentenced to 22 months in prison in April 2019.
Interior Minister Nehammer said the terrorist was released early because of his young age, reports Reuters.
Mr Nehammer said during a press conference this afternoon that the attacker appeared to be integrating while doing the opposite.
Fejzulai was reportedly under surveillance by security services but did not consider launching an attack domestically, said Falter weekly editor Florian Klenk.
“We saw an attack by at least one Islamist terrorist last night,” said Nehammer.
