If there’s a way to promote your brand, you need to attract the first lady.
Just one more day before the US will decide on its next president, Melania makes headlines and accompanies her husband Donald Trump on his campaign.
Everything that Melania walks in becomes attentive, but much of it is admittedly inaccessible to most people. A well-known designer said that was why he would not work with her and not for political reasons.
“I think whoever the president or first lady is should wear clothes at a price that most Americans can afford and clothes from America,” said Tom Ford on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.
“My clothes are made in Italy, they are very, very expensive. I don’t think most women or men in our country can relate to it, and I think the first lady or the president should represent everyone. ”
Other designers refuse to dress Melania for political reasons.

Sophie Theallet dressed Michelle Obama but posted an open letter to Melania on Twitter.
“As an independent fashion brand, we see our voice as an expression of our artistic and philosophical ideas,” she said.
“The Sophie Theallet brand stands against all forms of discrimination and prejudice.
“Our runway shows, advertising campaigns and celebrity dressing have always been a celebration of diversity and a reflection of the world we live in. As someone who celebrates and seeks diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or connecting in any way with the next first lady.
“The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia sparked by her husband’s presidential campaign is inconsistent with the shared values by which we live.”
Marc Jacobs said he was “absolutely not interested” in attracting Melania.
“Personally, I would rather use my energy to help those hurt by Trump and his supporters,” he said.
Philip Lim said he did not foresee any relationship that would develop under the Trump administration.
“As a global brand, we always strive to work with people with whom we have authentic relationships – ultimately with women and men who share similar values, desires and ideologies: inclusion, diversity, justice, awareness, innovation,” he told WWD.
Humberto Leon from the opening ceremony and Kenzo whipped up a post on Facebook about the designers who said they wouldn’t wear them.
“Nobody should and if she buys your clothes tell people that you don’t support them. You know who you are! ”

But not everyone takes a stand, and some others are still happy to support Melania, especially the Dolce & Gabbana brand that she wears a lot.
Despite their support, designers still face controversy.
When Stefano Gabbana posted a photo of Donald and Melania on New Year’s Eve to thank the first lady for wearing one of their dresses, he caused controversy in the comments section but stepped in to defend himself.
“So disappointed,” wrote one user, to which Gabbana simply replied, “I don’t care.”
Manolo Blahnik had to respond to criticism after Melania wore his “impractical” sky-high stilettos to visit victims of Hurricane Harvey.
“I don’t think she’s insensitive,” he said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK.
“I think she’s working all the time to make it work – maybe she was just wearing the shoes she left New York in. Yes, I think she could probably have worn Hunter boots, but she wore what she wore. ”
He said that he “doesn’t care about politics” and that “about fashion and beauty” he “loves” Melania, who was a long time customer.
“She’s a beauty and that’s all that goes with it,” he said.
