Best October ever for car sales in Norway

When the corona pandemic hit Norway in March, it also immediately affected sales of new cars.

Suddenly it was completely quiet in many car shops and sales fell sharply.

However, it did not take long before used car sales picked up again. And this autumn there has been a very good development in sales of new cars.

The October figures are just clear. They show that as many as 12,948 new passenger cars were registered in Norway this month. It’s actually the best October figure ever – beating the previous record set in October 2015.

Twice as big

Part of the reason for this is that this month there have been extensive deliveries of cars that have been ordered earlier. The supreme bestseller is the Volkswagen ID.3. This is a car several thousand Norwegian customers have been waiting for a long time. In September, deliveries to customers finally started.

Volkswagen delivered a total of 2,889 cars in October. That is almost twice as much as Toyota in second place, they ended up with 1,576 cars. With that, Toyota by the way passed Audi, which after a fantastic start to the year, must see itself tilted down to third place. 587 Norwegians got a new Audi in October.

One thing can make electric cars cheaper in the coming years

Strong Mercedes increase

So far this year, Audi sales are increasing as much as 47.1 percent, compared to last year. It is the huge success of the electric car e-tron that accounts for almost all sales at Audi.

BMW in fourth place has delivered 6,824 cars in the first ten months of the year. Volvo in fifth place accounts for 6,669 cars. Here can be a proper trousers before the year is over. It depends on how fast Volvo starts delivering its electric XC40, a car that several thousand Norwegians have ordered.

Hyundai holds the sixth place in Norway with 6,567 cars, almost all of which are electric. Then we find Mercedes which increases its sales by as much as 129.5 percent this year, here the electric EQC is an important piece.

Tesla out of the top 10

Skoda holds eighth place with 5,896 cars. Nissan is in ninth with 4,752, while Peugeot thanks to a sales increase of 50.1 percent takes tenth place. Here, too, there is talk of a high proportion of electric cars.

With this, Tesla is right now out of the top 10 in Norway. So far, 2020 has been quite a step for the American electric car manufacturer, the number of cars is 76.3 percent behind last year.

A total of 108,299 new passenger cars were sold and registered per October, the figures from the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV) show. The corresponding figure last year was 121,096. In percentage terms, there is a decline of 10.6 per cent. Bringing it in the last two months of the year can probably be tough.
