Toes discoloration … a new symptom of corona virus

Research has found that the inflammatory condition caused by the Corona virus in the body can lead to discoloration and swelling of the toes, and in some cases these symptoms can last for several months.
Scientists have said that people infected with the Coronavirus may end up developing skin symptoms known as “corona fingers.”Research by the International Association of Dermatological Societies and the American Academy of Dermatology found that some patients suffer from inflammation in the toes that lead to swelling and discoloration, and this condition sometimes lasts for several months.

The condition usually develops within one to four weeks of infection and can lead to swollen or discolored toes. According to the available information, these symptoms are mild in most cases and the feet will return to normal within a few weeks.

Scientists also discovered that about one in six people need treatment for swollen feet in hospital, while some people with long-term symptoms of “Corona” reported cases that lasted for several months.

And Dr. Esther Freeman, the lead researcher at the International Center for Dermatology, said: “It appears that there is a certain subset of patients who develop inflammation in their toes shortly after infection with Corona infection, which makes them red and swollen, and then eventually turns purple.”

“In most cases, these symptoms disappear on their own, but in some cases they last for two weeks, and in rare cases they last for more than three months,” she added.

Freeman stressed that identifying people with symptoms of toes helps scientists understand more about the symptoms associated with the Corona virus in other parts of the body, according to what was reported by the British Mirror newspaper.
