The embassy stated – on its official Facebook page today, Thursday – that both the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ethiopian Airlines office in Cairo had been contacted to clarify the truth of the matter.
She explained that the embassy’s contacts with the Ethiopian authorities indicate so far that Egyptian citizens have come to Ethiopia for the purpose of staying for 14 days in Ethiopia and then heading to the State of Kuwait, and not for tourism, according to the visas they obtained from Cairo, and that a number of these citizens have violated instructions Quarantine followed in Ethiopia in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The embassy confirmed that it is currently working to ensure the rights of these citizens and treating them properly, adding that this does not negate the right of the host country to take whatever measures it deems necessary in the event of violating the instructions for disclosing the truth about the purpose of entering the country or the precautionary measures taken by different countries to confront the pandemic Corona Virus.
The embassy called on all citizens to adhere to calm and restraint in order to work on finding possible solutions.
