Tour company offers trip to Titanic from 2021

The tour company OceanGate Expeditions is offering uan unusual journey: to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. More precisely to the place where you are the famous Titanic ship wrecked.

More than 1,500 people died in the shipwreck, which occurred on the first voyage of the ocean liner, considered indestructible, in 1912. The ship, which was traveling from Southampton (England) to New York, collided with an iceberg and sank.

Since then, the wreck has fascinated millions of people around the world, especially after the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in 1997

The visitors’ club of the remains of the Titanic, which is in serious deterioration, included only scientists and the film’s director, James Cameron.

However, OceanGate Expeditions decided to popularize the visit, opening vacancies for travel in a special submarine, capable of withstanding great depths. The first six trips are already sold out, with 26 people booking seats. They will be carried out from May to July next year.

Applicants must provide height and weight, in addition to completing a questionnaire. Anyone who suffers from claustrophobia and problems with seasickness is banned. Those approved will go through one more stage before the mission. In training, they will have to demonstrate mobility, flexibility and balance, because of the reduced space on the submarine.

The eight-day package costs R $ 718 thousand, with ship travel from Saint John (Newfoundland, Canada) and dive about eight hours.

The wreckage of the Titanic was not found until 1985, by a team led by Robert Ballard. They are 3,843 meters deep and 650 kilometers southeast of Newfoundland (Canada).
