The UAE won the position of Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament during the elections that took place yesterday, in the procedural session held by the Arab Parliament at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. Muhammad Ahmad Al Yamahi, a member of the UAE Parliamentary Division in the Arab Parliament, won the confidence of the members of the Arab Parliament, to be elected among the four vice presidents of the Arab Parliament.
Al Yamahi expressed his happiness with the confidence of the members of the Arab Parliament, stressing that the UAE is always present in high positions, in support of joint Arab action and strengthening Arab solidarity. The delegation of the Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council participated in the session, which includes Naama Abdullah Al-Sharhan, the second vice president of the council and chair of the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women and Youth Affairs Committee, Ahmed Bushehab Al Suwaidi, a member of the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee, and Shatha Saeed Al Naqbi, a member of the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee of the Arab Parliament. The delegation also included Afra Rashid Al-Basti, Assistant Secretary-General for Parliamentary Liaison.
In addition, Muhammad Ahmad Al-Yamahi said that the Committee on Foreign, Political and National Security Affairs discussed a number of items, the most important of which is a review of political and security developments in the Arab world, and includes developments in the situation in Yemen, Libya, Syria and Iraq. The committee also discussed a working paper on the latest developments in joint Arab action, in light of the decisions of the League of Arab States at the level of the summit, the ministerial council and the delegates, as well as an item on the rights of Arab and Muslim minorities in some countries.
In turn, Shatha Saeed Al Naqbi said that the Committee on Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs discussed a project on its work plan for the first ordinary session, and a proposal on amending some articles of the rules of procedure of the Arab Parliament, in addition to the meeting of the Subcommittee on Human Rights in the Arab World, and a report on the status of Human Rights in the Arab World 2019, the Arab Decade for Human Rights / 2020-2030 /, and monitoring human rights in Palestine.

In the context, Naema Abdullah Al-Sharhan said that the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women and Youth Affairs Committee discussed a number of indicative draft laws to promote preventive health and combat epidemics in the Arab world, and to regulate the establishment and mechanism of work of organizations working in the charitable and humanitarian field, and a draft law on an Arab social safety network .
In the context, Ahmed Bushehab Al-Suwaidi said that the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee discussed the draft budget of the Arab Parliament for the year 2021, the financial report until December 31, 2020, and the follow-up of countries paying their contributions to the 2020 budget.
