Autopsy after triple shooting in Co Cork

Post-mortem examinations of the bodies of a father and two adult sons who died in suicide on a County Cork farm are due to begin this morning at Cork University Hospital.

The bodies of 59-year-old Tadhg O’Sullivan and his two sons, 26-year-old Mark and 23-year-old Diarmuid O’Sullivan, were found with gunshot wounds on the family farm near Kanturk.

The bodies of the three men were taken by hearse to Cork University Hospital last night, where an autopsy will be taking place later that morning as the Gardai investigation attempted to unravel the sequence of events that led to the fatal shootings.

Members of the Emergency Response Unit found the body of 26-year-old Mark O’Sullivan with gunshot wounds in a bedroom of the farmhouse in Assolas near Kanturk yesterday.

A short time later, the bodies of his younger brother, 23-year-old Diarmuid, and his father, 59-year-old Tadgh, were found with fatal gunshot wounds almost half a kilometer away in a field.

Gardai confiscated two rifles and a shotgun.

One line of inquiry followed by Gardai is that the shooting may have resulted from a dispute over land.

They have renewed their appeal to witnesses who may have previously seen or heard something in the area to get in touch with them.

In the meantime, the Garda Technical Burear will resume their on-site forensic investigation this morning.
