Today, Monday, the Astronomical Society in Jeddah revealed the observation of a star flashing red and green, low towards the northeastern horizon, in the phenomenon of seeing the naked eye in the sky of the Kingdom and the Arab world, Monday evening. For his part, the chief astronomer of Jeddah, Eng. Majed Abu Zahra, explained that this star is the “elephant” that after its rise and departure from the horizon, its golden color will appear and the red and green colors will disappear, pointing out that if a person is able to travel to this star, he will find it consisting of two stars.
Majid Abu Zahra said that both of them have roughly the same surface temperature as the temperature of the sun, but they are larger and brighter than the sun, and that every star in the sky undergoes the same process as the “buoys” in producing color flashes, because each star when it is low towards the horizon flashes insanely.
He pointed out that this is because the light coming from it must pass through a thick layer of the atmosphere that refracts the star’s light into colors before it reaches our eyes, as a prism does when sunlight passes through it.
