The Belgian actor Jean-Claude Van Dammeit marked generations for its important roles in action films that were well known mainly for involving the martial arts. It is known that after achieving so much fame and success, Jean he preferred to follow a life a little more peaceful and away from the spotlight, but that was not the only reason for his disappearance from the big screen.

According to the actor himself, he is on a Hollywood ‘junk list’. In an interview with The Guardian in 2020, Van Damme stated that the big movie studios have refused to hire him again after a request from the actor.

The star commented that he asked to receive the same stars as Jim Carrey they received at the time, which ended up not happening. As revealed by the interpreter, he declined some invitations from major movie studios in the hope of a better opportunity, however, he was unsuccessful.

In recent years, however, the actor has made some dubbing appearances in famous animations such as Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), in addition to being part of some films, among them, The Expendables 2 (2012).

Van Damme he also made TV commercials and became a meme on the internet after appearing on the television program Saturday Night Live. The man also took advantage of the success of his old films to make satires and even remakes of the iconic films.

In addition to these small participations, the Belgian continues to dedicate himself to sports and physical exercises. The artist stated that he exercises at least five times a week to keep fit. Sometimes, the man even shares photos of his training on his social networks, generating comments from his followers.

Sport and bodybuilding have always been present in the life of Jean Claude, which was fundamental in the development of his career in action films. At the age of 10 the actor started to participate in the Belgian karate team and at the age of 18 he was elected Mr. Belgium Bodybuilding in 1978.

Possible restart

Currently, the performer is involved in a new production on Netflix. The company realized that Morte Súbita (1995), an iconic film Van Damme, has become one of the most watched movies on the streaming platform for a long time.

Thinking about that, Jean was hired to star in the movie The Last Mercenary, which is set to open in 2021. The golden opportunity the actor has been waiting for may have started now, at the height of his 60s, now we can only wait to know.
