Fathi Pasha Agha, Minister of Interior of Fayez al-Sarraj’s government in Libya, attacked the Tripoli militia that kidnapped Muhammad Ba’ayo, the head of the Libyan Media Foundation (Minister of Information) affiliated with his same government and belonging to the city of Misrata.

Pasha Agha said in his blog post on Twitter that he had detected flagrant legal violations issued “unfortunately” by official bodies, violating the sanctity of housing and withholding freedom without any legal basis.

Pasha Agha, who is currently on a visit to Rome with Fayez al-Sarraj, confirmed that he referred the matter to Al-Sarraj – who was appointed with Ayyou despite objections from the Brotherhood and some members of the Presidential Council – out of respect for the competence and the level of authorities according to the principles of law and the civil state!

Pasha Agha, accused in the Gargour massacre, in which 47 were killed and 518 demonstrators were injured, stressed that “tyranny cannot be fought with tyranny or the slogan of the civil state can be raised using repressive means,” as he claimed.

He continued: “It is not possible to call for the rule of law by violating the law, violating the sanctity of housing and terrorizing the safe in their homes. Names and behavior change one.”

On Wednesday, an armed militia affiliated with the “Al-Sarraj” government kidnapped the head of the Libyan Media Foundation, Mohamed Baiyou, belonging to the same government, against the backdrop of two decisions he issued, the first of which: referring the director of the “Libya Al-Ahrar” channel, the media arm of the militias, to the investigation on charges of squandering and embezzling money, and the second: Removing the slogan “Volcano of Anger” from the official channels.

It is noteworthy that Baio – from the city of Misrata – has a strong relationship with the leaders of the Misrata militia, especially as he is the cousin of the prominent militia “Shrikhan”, who leads a militia that bears his name.

Pasha Agha, along with the deputy in the Presidency Council, Ahmed Maitiq, forms a strong front against Al-Sarraj that threatens major splits within the government, as Maitiq issued his order to Pasha Agha in an official statement to facilitate citizens’ obtaining permission to demonstrate and their right to do so, and the importance of the Interior Ministry to protect them.

Maitiq also called on the legal authorities not to approve letters or decisions from Al-Sarraj alone in the name of the Council if they were not issued by a meeting of members.

The UN mission to Libya condemned Ba’ayou’s detention outside the framework of the law, calling for his immediate and unconditional release, the need to respect the rule of law, and reiterating that media freedom is crucial to the democratic transition process in the country.

Earlier, Al-Sarraj suspended his interior minister, Fathi Bashagha, from work and referred him for investigation due to his position on the demonstrators until Bashagha, with his relations and pressure with Misrata militias, was able to return to his post.

The intense tension between the militias in Tripoli and Misrata increased, due to the practices of Pasha Agha, who accuse him of loyalty to the Misrata militia at the expense of their counterparts in Tripoli, and that he plans to remove them from the political and security scene.

Also, a number of militias in the cities of Zawiya, Zuwara, Sabratha, and al-Jamil issued statements in which they criticized the policy of Pasha Agha, considering that he promotes international agendas that are suspicious of disarming and dismantling what they called “revolutionaries” to achieve his goals of reaching power, empowering the Syrian mercenaries.
