The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a well-designed phone, but it’s not something we’ve never seen before. Samsung is borrowing elements from the previous Note and its other 2020 flagship lineup and further refining them for a great looking device. The metal and glass construction screams premium, while the Gorilla Glass Victus panels on the front and back should protect the phone from scratches. The Mystic Bronze color is the crowd favorite, but the muted Mystic Black and Mystic White colors are available for those who want them.

On the front is a gorgeous 6.9-inch Dynamic OLED display with curved edges and minimal bezels. The variable refresh rate can be up to 120 Hz for Full HD. The resolution can also be increased to Quad HD. The front-facing camera is in a small hole notch, and the fingerprint scanner is under the display, creating an impressive looking all-screen front.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max follows a similar pattern. It borrows elements from previous generations and refines them further. The big notch remains, which while looking pretty dated, is an understandable trade-off to include Face ID. The stainless steel construction is fantastic and the rounded corners look great.

Important improvements across the board make the 12 Pro Max even more convincing. At 6.7 inches, it offers the largest display of all iPhones to date, and the Super Retina XDR OLED display is more impressive than ever. The odd resolution is somewhere between Full HD and Quad HD. You won’t get faster update rates here, however.

Apple uses a new Ceramic Shield panel to keep the display secure. It is said to be four times more protective compared to older iPhones. It will be interesting to see how it fares against Gorilla Glass Victus and other panes of glass in the many scratch and drop tests that we will see over the next several weeks. The color that has everyone excited is the brand new Pacific Blue option which is likely to be a fan favorite this holiday season.

Overall, there aren’t any real surprises here in design, but Apple’s improvements to build quality give it an edge. Either way, fans of both companies should be satisfied with what their latest and greatest offerings have to offer.

Note 20 Ultra Network Quality

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has the fastest processor you can currently get in the Android world: the Snapdragon 865 Plus. However, the processor-optimized for gaming is only available in the US and a few other markets, with Samsung preferring its internal Exynos 990 for Europe and other regions. Either way, you get a whopping 12GB of RAM with the phone.

On the flip side, the iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with the company’s newest processor, the A14 Bionic. Apple has also increased the RAM to 6 GB with the 12 Pro Max. While this specification is decidedly in the mid-range in the Android space, Apple’s optimization ensures that it is more than sufficient.

Both phones are powerhouses.

The best of Android versus Apple’s latest version is a current battle every year, and 2020 will be no different. Ultimately, however, what matters is that both phones are absolute powerhouses. Performance won’t be an issue with either flagship.

The two phones don’t have much in common, but both devices offer storage options of up to 512 GB. However, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra lets you add even more with a microSD card. Both are also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance.

When it comes to connectivity, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro Max support less than 6 GHz networks and mmWave 5G. The Snapdragon 865 Plus-toting Note 20 Ultra can also connect to global 5G networks if available.

The Note 20 Ultra has a 4,500 mAh battery that can comfortably be used for a full day. The fact that the Samsung device comes with a 25W wired charger in the box is now also noteworthy due to Apple’s divisive movement. The phone also supports 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse charging to charge accessories like earbuds or even another phone.

We don’t know the exact size of the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s battery, but you can use 18W fast charging, 15W wireless charging with an Apple charger, and 7W charging with standard Qi chargers use. However, if you want a traditional charger, you’ll have to pay an extra $ 20 if you don’t already have one at home.

The outstanding feature of the Galaxy Note series remains the S Pen. The new S Pen offers an even better experience than previous generations. According to Samsung, the pen has a “more natural precision” that detects higher pressure. It is claimed that this will feel like you are writing on actual paper. There are also four new gestures you can use the S Pen to interact with various apps and content on the Note 20.

On the iPhone 12 models, the MagSafe feature made all the headlines. It uses magnets to attach a variety of accessories, from cases to wireless chargers, to the back of the phone. The full potential of this feature has yet to be explored. However, for now, the main benefit seems to be the ability to connect a wireless charger to the phone without having to worry about alignment.

Camera

The most important piece of hardware in most modern smartphones is the camera. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 12 MP wide sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera and a 12 MP telephoto shooter with 2.5x optical zoom. The phone also includes a LiDAR scanner for recording depth information. The 12 Pro Max will also use sensor shift stabilization, which Apple says will do a better job than OIS.

On the flip side, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra wins the megapixel battle with its 108MP primary shooter. This is supported by an ultra-wide 12MP sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and 50x hybrid zoom. We found the Note 20 Ultra’s camera to be pretty impressive in our review.
