The whole region contributes

Helse Nord sends health personnel from all over the region to assist in Hammerfest.

Five intensive care nurses from Mo i Rana, an anesthesia nurse from Mosjøen, a chief physician from Sandnessjøen, three doctors from UNN and a doctor from Nordland Hospital are going to Finnmark to work. People with known infections have been to the various places before they knew they were infected.

All employees at these nightclubs who worked on 8 and 10 October will be tested for the coronavirus.

Red alert

On Wednesday night, it first became known that two of the employees at Hammerfest Hospital were infected with coronary heart disease.

On Thursday afternoon, Finnmark Hospital changed the emergency level from green to yellow, but the hospital in Hammerfest was put on red alert.

– We have good control of the situation around patient safety. But what is clear is how many are infected. That is why we are on this red alert, says clinic manager at the hospital Jonas Valle Paulsen on Saturday afternoon.

However, the head of the clinic emphasizes that it is still unknown where the infection comes from.

All planned treatments at the hospital were canceled indefinitely on Thursday. The health institution will only prioritize acute treatments in the future.

– We accept those who need immediate help from the nearest municipalities, ie from Hammerfest and Måsøy, says the hospital’s clinic manager.

According to him, patients are received, stabilized and sent on. The maternity ward is also still in operation at the hospital.

– All patients are taken care of. You must contact the health service in the same way as before, Jonas Valle Paulsen points out.

Hammerfest Hospital had already had visit restrictions for a long time, due to covid-19, before the coronary heart disease occurred at the hospital. These restrictions will continue in the future.
