The French Ministry of Health reported a record number of new confirmed cases of covid-19 this Saturday (17), of 32,427, after reporting 25,086 on Friday (16).

Total infections since the beginning of the year are now 867,197, while the total number of deaths is 33,392, an increase of 90 since Friday.

Restrictions

The French Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, justified this Friday the curfew that takes effect this midnight in nine urban areas of the country because the alternative of having to apply general containment in these areas would have an economic cost of 5 billion euros. At least 20 million people will be affected by touch.

On Thursday (15), a record number of 30,621 new cases was recorded in 24 hours, which far surpassed the other records reached in the previous week.

With the exception of the first night, the curfew will be in effect between 9 pm and 6 am, during which time stores and establishments that receive the public, such as restaurants, cinemas, theaters or concert halls, must be closed
