This Saturday the Algarve has 47 more cases of Covid-19, according to data from the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) of this Saturday, 17 October, which has just been released. In the total of the country, the barrier of 2000 cases is again overcome (they are today +2153), but, even so, this number represents a significant decrease in relation to the numbers of yesterday, when 2608 new infections were registered.
Thus, according to DGS data, the Algarve region has accumulated 2,171 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Today, the epidemiological bulletin already counts yet another death in the Algarve, that of the user of a home in Portimão, as the South Information reported.
At national level, 13 more deaths have been registered since yesterday, making the total rise to 2162. Six of those deaths occurred in the North, 5 in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 1 in Alentejo and another in the Algarve.
Despite the large number of new infections, taking into account that the number of recovered patients also increased significantly (more 853), this means that, in the total of active cases, there was a less accentuated increase than in previous days: another 287 ( for a total of 37,974).
As for the evolution of the epidemiological situation by region, the Northern region continues to be the one with the most new cases, with over 1124 people infected with the new coronavirus, bringing the accumulated total to 38,281.
Next are Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (47,027, plus 781), Centro (7983, plus 149), Algarve (2,171, plus 47), Alentejo (1,956, plus 42), Azores (317, plus 7) and Madeira (320 plus 3).
As for the number of people hospitalized in the various hospitals in the country, which yesterday exceeded the thousand, today there is a very slight decrease to 1014 (-1). However, of these, there are 148 in intensive care (plus 4).
This Saturday there are over 759 contacts under surveillance, bringing the total to 52,543.
