The Deputy Minister of Public Health, Luis Suárez Ognio, considered that according to what was analyzed in Europe, the pattern is a second wave of coronavirus with more cases of contagion than the first and a lower mortality, however, this does not necessarily occur in all countries.

At a press conference, he stated that pandemics “have historically behaved like this” and recalled that in the case of the call “Spanish flu”In Peru, the second wave appeared in 1919 and the third a year later, with a great impact on mortality.

“So far from what we have seen in European countries, in most of them the pattern is a second wave with more cases than the first, but with lower mortality, with fewer deaths. However, not all countries have this pattern “, he expressed.

“In the case of Russia, there is an increase in deaths, therefore we cannot assume that the second wave will be the same in all countries, that it will be similar to Europe, that it will have a large number of cases and few deceased. The same happens in Ukraine and Poland, where there are a large number of cases and more deaths than was observed in the first pandemic wave “he added.

In this sense, Suárez Ognio remarked that in Peru there are “Similar behaviors” to those observed in Europe, but made it clear that it cannot be assured or denied that a second wave of COVID-19, as has happened in other countries in the region.

“In South America most of the countries have a tendency to decrease. In Brazil it is on a downward trend, it still has a large number of cases and deaths, but it is already decreasing “, he stressed.

“Where a small peak of increases has been observed is in Colombia: it was decreasing like Peru, but now it has a tendency to increase in infections and deaths”added the Minsa official.
