This murder comes 3 weeks after a knife attack near the magazine’s former offices Charlie Hebdo, who published those cartoons at the time, in Paris, France.

The victim was beheaded this Friday in the middle of the street in the town of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, 50 kilometers from Paris, near the school where he worked.

The national antiterrorist prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for “murder in connection with a terrorist company” and “terrorist criminal association”.

The police of the town of Conflans Saint-Honorine were alerted by the presence of a suspicious individual hanging around the school, said the Paris antiterrorist prosecutor’s office.

Upon arrival, the police discovered the beheaded victim 200 meters from the school. They tried to arrest a man carrying a knife, but he threatened them, so the agents shot him.

The alleged perpetrator, whose identity has not yet been leaked, died, judicial sources indicated to AFP.

The police established a security perimeter and the demining service was called on suspicion that the man was wearing an explosive vest.

This attack occurs 3 weeks after a knife attack by a 25-year-old Pakistani near the former offices of the weekly Charlie Hebdo, in which two people were injured.

The author of that Islamist attack had told investigators that he wanted to avenge Charlie Hebdo’s re-publication of those cartoons, at the beginning of September.

It was for this same reason that the weekly was attacked in January 2015 by 2 jihadists who massacred a large part of its newsroom, including some of the most famous cartoonists in France.

Under the title ‘Tout ça pour ça’ (And all for this), Charlie Hebdo decided to republish the cartoons on the occasion of the trial of the January 2015 attacks, which is currently being held in Paris.

In response, thousands of protesters had protested in various cities in Pakistan against Charlie Hebdo and France.

Al Qaeda had also threatened to attack again the writing of the satirical weekly, which after the 2015 attacks moved and keeps its new address secret.
