A big change is on the way next week as unusual “cyclone” conditions hit Ireland.

Today it will be mostly dry with sunny phases and occasional showers.

And at the beginning of the weekend, more mixed conditions are expected on Saturday before the rain becomes “persistent” on Sunday.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Today it will be mostly dry with sunny spells and only a few showers throughout the day. Highest temperatures 11 to 13 degrees with light to moderate easterly winds, later in the southwest moderate to fresh in the southeast.

“Tomorrow, Saturday, it will be mostly dry in the morning with the best sunshine in the southwest. In the afternoon, clouds with scattered showers form in the east and north. Later on, on the southwest coast, there are outbreaks of rain. At the highest temperatures 10 to 13 degrees with moderate easterly winds, at times fresh in the west.

“On Saturday evening, outbreaks of rain will extend through Westmünster in the southwest inland and in the north. Most of the land will be dry with a few showers. Fog and fog will thicken in the Central Plateau and in the north. Lowest temperatures between 3 and 5 degrees in the north and between 8 and 10 degrees in the south. Light to moderate easterly winds are sometimes fresh.

“Sunday is at times quite cloudy with rain or showers. The rain will continue later on Sunday, particularly along the southern coastal areas. Temperatures will be between 11 and 13 degrees in the afternoon and drop between 8 and 11 degrees overnight. The winds on Sunday will be slightly variable in direction and will be fresh on the east coasts south. ”

And it looks like the miserable conditions will continue until next week, with some heavy rains and even some possible flooding.

Some “cyclonic” winds are also expected to hit mid-week when a low pressure front is moving.

A forecaster added: “On Monday it will rain, heavily at times, and spread across the country. Temperatures will be 12-14 degrees and the winds will be moderate south, fresh on the coasts. There will be further bursts of rain overnight with the risk of point flooding.

“The weather is still unsettled on Tuesday and in the middle of the week. Tuesday winds are expected to be fresh in the south and cyclonic to change as the week progresses, with low pressure moving over or near Ireland. The temperatures overall remain unchanged until the middle of the week. ”
