Apple iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro appear on AnTuTu, do not...

Apple unveiled its iPhone 12 lineup earlier this week. The vanilla iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will be prepared for pre-order ahead of next week’s launch. Today we spotted both devices that were tested on AnTuTu and gave us a little glimpse into the synthetic performance of the phones internals.

Both iPhone 12 devices are operated with the A14 Bionic, which is based on the 5 nm process technology. However, the raw data shows rather disappointing results compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chip used by most Android flagships.

Apple iPhone 12 • Apple iPhone 12 Pro

The 570,000 times the total of the performance of GPU, CPU, memory and user interface at AnTuTu is anything but impressive. A quick comparison between a random Xiaomi phone that is over 687,000 and Apple devices that don’t exceed the threshold of 600,000 shows that performance is insufficient in all four categories. The biggest discrepancy is in the GPU department – the decrease from 292,704 to 201,085 is almost 44%.

In the other three segments, Apple has to catch up with less than 10% of the performance, and the storage difference is around 6% thanks to the 4/256 GB storage combination of the iPhone 12 and the 6/128 GB variant of the iPhone 12 Pro.

However, it is not fair to compare Apple products to Android smartphones because the devices use different resources. The iPhones are in their own league, and it’s fair to compare the A14 to its predecessor – the 7nm A13 Bionic chip. Our database shows that the iPhone 11 Pro Max scores 536,883 points on AnTuTu 8, which gives the iPhone 12 family a slight advantage of 5 to 6% depending on RAM and storage.

Let’s not forget that smartphones are not just chipsets and antennas, but also the subjective factor “user experience”. Once the phones are down and we’re done with our reviews, you can come back and read about how the iPhone 12 devices are performing in real-life scenarios.
