This Tuesday the delivery ceremony of the sello Safe Travels that certifies the Peru how safe tourist destination to COVID-19. This distinctive ensures that the country complies with international hygiene and biosafety standards before the coronavirus.

The ceremony took place in the citadel of Macchu Picchu in Cusco, where the president of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara, delivered the sello Safe Travels virtually from London, to the President of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos Ruíz.

Also participating in the significant event were the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rocío Barrios; the regional governor of Cusco, Jean Paul Benavente; the district mayor of Machupicchu, Darwin Baca, and the president of Promperú, Luis Torres, among other authorities.

Safe destination

He sello de Safe Travels (safe travel) is a set of designed protocols under guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) to restart the tourist activity in the world.

With this certification, the Peru it becomes the third destination in Latin America to receive the seal after Ecuador and Brazil. The granting of distinctive is performed after WTTC’s evaluation and approval of the sanitary protocols and of biosecurity established in sector tourist of our country.

Currently, Peru has eight biosecurity protocols in the Tourism sector prepared by the Center for Tourism Training (Cenfotur), following the recommendations of the WTTC and the WHO protocols.

Winners

The ceremony was also used to recognize the winners of the Tourism Emprende program. The head of Tourism and Foreign Trade, Rocío Barrios, will lead the activity.

In this second edition, of the 612 winners at the national level, 130 belong to the Cusco region, to which more than 11 million soles have been allocated to finance projects related to the tourism sector. The contest was aimed exclusively at artisans and official guides from tourism.
