You can now set your HomePod as a permanent speaker out...

Apple users have long tried using their HomePods as an Apple TV speaker system. The standard AirPlay 2 experience works most of the time … unless it doesn’t. The usual frustration is that Apple TV forgets the AirPlay 2 connection and you have to keep selecting the HomePod as the audio output. Apple finally fixed this with iOS 14.2 and tvOS 14.2 Beta 3.

Starting with the latest Seed 3 betas released today, you can now select a default speaker output from the Home app.

This means that you can definitely choose your HomePod living room as the audio output of your Apple TV. While more testing is needed to be sure, this should resolve complaints from people with a HomePod-Apple TV pairing.

With the new setting, Apple TV should always use the HomePod by default when it comes to sound. Watch out for this new feature when tvOS 14.2 and iOS 14.2 are released in the next month or so.

Please visit the updated HomePod website for a checklist of newly announced features. An exclusive feature for the HomePod valued at $ 299 is called “Home Theater with Apple TV 4K”. It’s not clear if that attitude is what this is referring to.
