The Turkish authorities announced the arrest of 22 people, most of them teachers, in 12 provinces, for using the ByLock application.

Security sources indicated that the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch carried out the arrests last week against teachers, a doctor, a housewife, a merchant and a police officer.

She confirmed, “The suspects, whose procedures with the police have ended, were transferred to the court after a medical examination in the forensic unit in Adana.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office released 3 suspects, while 7 continued to be arrested, including the shopkeeper, and judicial control orders were issued against the 13 others, while the police continued to pursue a suspect who had not yet been found.

Initial information indicated that all the detainees were those who were dismissed from their jobs in the police, teaching and medicine.

The Turkish government asserts that the perpetrators of the 2016 coup used the “ByLock” application to communicate, and under this accusation, hundreds of their jobs were arrested and dismissed, although the application was available for download via the Internet.
