Factional attempts to absorb the anger of Cairo

Gaza | With the continued Egyptian anger over the holding of the General Secretaries General Conference of the Palestinian factions in Beirut and Ramallah, and the subsequent meetings of understanding between “Hamas” and “Fatah” in Istanbul (see the issue of Friday, October 2), the two movements decided to appease Egypt with messages confirming the continuation of the latter’s role. The Central Bank on the Palestinian issue, and declare their intention to complete reconciliation efforts in Cairo in the coming weeks. Rajoub said that the call for a meeting of trustees in Cairo “will be under the auspices of President Mahmoud Abbas to announce a road map … The Egyptians told us that they are ready in principle to provide all facilities for the success of the conference.” For its part, “Hamas” indicated that it always informs the Egyptians of the course of the dialogues, pointing out that they have shown their support for reconciliation and arranging the Palestinian home, and that it has also conducted a series of contacts with a number of countries “to put it in the image of the ongoing national movement”.

“Fatah” and “Hamas” will hold new consultative meetings to determine implementation dates

Al-Akhbar learned from Hamas sources that the movement is studying the problems that may face the conference if it is held in Cairo, especially since the head of the Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, has not yet completed his foreign work, and he is afraid that the Egyptian authorities will prevent him from leaving its lands. Therefore, discussions are underway with the Egyptians to obtain guarantees. However, Rajoub pre-empted Hamas’s concerns by saying that “Cairo is ready to provide all facilities.” Prior to the upcoming meeting of the secretaries, the two movements agreed to hold a “new consultative meeting” during the next week to discuss “preliminary issues for the internal road map, especially with regard to the presidential decree on elections, in addition to discussing the formation of a national coalition government that paves the way for elections and ends the division, and an agreement on a date A meeting of the trustees was held after completing the consultations with the various factions, ”the sources said.
In parallel, “Fatah” ended its consultations with the Palestinian factions in the Syrian capital Damascus until the day before yesterday, and obtained those factions’ support for the understandings it reached with “Hamas” regarding the elections, while the latter announced that it had conducted extensive consultations with the Palestinian forces to reach a “road map.” To meet the secretaries-general, and a complete arrangement for the Palestinian case ». These discussions included, according to the movement’s spokesman, Hazem Qassem, talking about “the PLO and its institutions, and activating popular resistance.” Confirming what was published by “Al-Akhbar” in the issue of last Monday, Rajoub revealed that the authority was exposed to temptations and pressures from regional parties, whom he did not name, to thwart the elections with an American push, but he said: “Not everything that is known is said.” The authority faced Arab pressure from Egypt and Jordan, and behind them Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, to obstruct the recent “Hamas” – “Fatah” understandings.
