The murder of Shaima (18 years) shook Algeria, on Sunday, in the latest episode of the series of kidnapping and killing of children and minors, and it re-talked about the death penalty and the justice system in the country.
Shaima’s body was found in an abandoned fuel station in Thania, Boumerdes, 50 km east of Algiers.
The prosecutor in Boumerdes revealed in a press conference, on Monday, that the accused lured the victim and carried out the “indecent act” before he hit her and burned her body with gasoline.
After the authorities examined the dead girl’s body, it became clear that there were bruises and a large wound on her left thigh and the back of her head, and some of her hair was lying in front of the body.

In a previous statement, the authorities stated that the perpetrator of the crime is one of the precedents, and the victim had previously filed a complaint against him for rape in 2016, when she was only 14 years old, and the case remained at a standstill, and the criminal returned to his act and kidnapped Shaima in front of her house. He used a white weapon and raped her, then burned her body, and fled.
The defendant, who was codenamed “B.A.” only, reported to the authorities that his girlfriend Shaima was burned in an abandoned petrol station in the fold, claiming that Shaima asked him for food and when he went out to bring him, the room she was in was caught on fire, in a broken story that did not convince the investigators .
During the interrogation with him, he retracted his first statements, and confirmed that the victim, with whom he had a relationship for years, called him the meeting student, and upon meeting at the abandoned petrol station, he beat her until she lost consciousness. The defendant went to the opposite petrol station, where he brought a plastic bottle filled with petrol, sprayed Shaima’s body with it, then set it on fire and left the place, according to Sky News.
The mother of the victim sent a letter to President Abdel Majid Tebboune to implement the death penalty and retribution against her daughter, and said in a video posted on social media that she knows the criminal, and she had previously filed a complaint against him years ago for harassing her daughter.
The mother’s message met with widespread solidarity. Voices were raised calling on the Algerian authorities to provide more measures to protect children from kidnapping, especially through harsher penalties, especially the death penalty.
