Ayman Al-Rifai, former head of the Discipline and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Association, said that Al-Nasr club’s position is sound regarding Persepolis’s violation of regulations, stressing that the AFC has no right to exclude the Iranian team under the pretext of the Corona virus or other.

Earlier, FIFA punished Persepolis by depriving him of concluding new deals, due to the crisis of late financial dues to the players. They previously played for the team and lodged complaints against it, but the Iranian club registered new players days before the Asian Championship.

Al-Nasr club management formally moved against Persepolis by filing a complaint with the AFC, protesting the ineligibility of some players on the Iranian club’s list for the Champions League semi-final match.

Al-Rifai clarified, in televised statements, that he does not have a compelling argument about the circumstances of the Iranian club’s violation of regulations and bypassing the penalty of “FIFA”, which would enhance the position of the victory protest against Persepolis by 100%.

The former Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee added that the protest path passes through two hypotheses. The first indicates that the Iranian club violated the regulations and the ban from the International Federation, and had already registered new players bypassing the FIFA penalty.

He stressed that according to this proposition, the ban will be applied to the Iranian club, Article 30 of the Asian regulation, and Article 56 imposing a fine on him, and the result is withdrawn from him, and he is considered losing the match with a score of 0-3, according to Article 20 of the regulations, and accordingly the continental association is in violation of the regulations .

Al-Rifai added, that the second hypothesis has 3 possibilities, the first is that Persepolis scored the players correctly, whether before the ban, or that he has already paid the sums for which he was punished, and thus this decision is considered final, and the victory complaint becomes worthless.

The former head of discipline indicated that the second possibility is that the Iranian club obtained a decision from a higher judicial authority, whether the appeal or the Sports Court (CAS), to cancel the decision to prevent the registration of new players, and accordingly, Persepolis’s position becomes legal.

He pointed out that the third possibility is that the AFC has excluded Persepolis from this judicial decision, which it has no right to exclude. As everyone knows that the judicial ruling is not canceled nor excluded except by a ruling from a higher judicial authority, and in this case the victory complaint is moving in the right direction.

And the former head of discipline added that if the AFC excluded the Iranian club by registering, citing the circumstances imposed by the Corona virus or the exceptional regulation, then he would have violated the regulations, stressing that it is a priority to exclude the clubs that were clearly affected by the pandemic and prevented them from completing the tournament.

Al-Rifai concluded his remarks, stressing that Al-Nassr has the right to protest against Persepolis, according to the first premise or in the event of an exception on the part of the continental union, according to these data, the global position is sound according to the laws of the International Federation, after the Iranian team violated the regulations.

Al-Nassr lost to Persepolis, on Saturday evening, with a 3-5 penalty shootout, after the original and extra time of the match that brought them together ended with a 1-1 positive draw, in the semi-finals of the 2020 AFC Champions League.

Al-Nasr management met quickly after losing the match in the Qatari capital and studied all the data, and decided to file a protest note due to the ineligibility of some of the players on the Persepolis list; To compete in the AFC Champions League.
