Hot on the heels of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, attention turns north to Germany for the 56th Munich Security Conference.

While Davos has been a place for economists and business leaders to engage about the state of the world's finances, this summit is rooted in defence, diplomacy and security policy.

This year, the focus will be on a "westlessness", an idea that western countries are uncertain of their values and their strategic orientation. Attendees will also be tackling the implications of the coronavirus outbreak and US actions in the Middle East. The summit runs from February 14 to 16.
