Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - At least 11 people were killed and dozens injured in a gas explosion in Iran on Thursday, an emergency official told the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Five children were reported to be among those killed in the blast in Saqqez.

"At least 11 people were killed and unfortunately five children were among them when the gas explosion occurred at a wedding hall at night in Saqqez city," Mehr reported.

It said dozens were injured when trying to escape the venue.

Mehr said rescue teams and ambulances had been sent to the scene.
