“One Piece”: Message from Eiichiro Oda on chapter 1,000

Today is the day: Chapter 1,000 of “ One Piece” has been officially published. In line with this, #Mangaka Eiichiro Oda sent a message to his fans, which we have translated below. A special video has also been released, which you can find below.

»1,000 chapters !!! I, uh, wow … words can’t describe what a whirlwind the last 23 years have been. Literally half of my life has revolved around the almighty weekly release. But it’s not just me, Luffy and the Straw Hats have gone to so many different islands and got involved in so many adventures.

I’m not sure by myself how many lives they touched on their way! But it is thanks to them that so many special people have come into my own life; especially my family. All of these people have supported me over the years, and I am deeply indebted to each of them. In the meantime, my readers have led their own busy lives.

There is a certain theory in the entertainment world that says, “A certain pool of readers will turn away from a series after five years.” And so I avoided calling my readers “fans” for a while. “Arrogance comes before the fall.” I told myself not to be too impressed because my readers would eventually turn away from the series and get on with their own lives.

Let me say that you all embarrassed me to think such a thing. Your belief in Luffy made me believe in all of you, and that’s what allows me to keep drawing the exact kind of manga I want to draw. So here we are – ready to dip our toes into the final stages of the story. It took a long time to get to 1,000 chapters. But just because I have completed 1,000 chapters, you must believe me that I will lead us to the end.

The -story that awaits you will exceed all expectations! I’m serious!!

I have a favor to ask of you. This favor is for anyone with whom I have developed a bond in one way or another. In other words: to all ONE PIECE FANS in this world! My story is a long story. But please watch over Luffy and his crew for a while as they continue their adventure! “

Large global character survey

In line with the publication of Chapter 1,000, which can now be read free of charge and legally at MANGA Plus, the Shueisha publisher has started a large character survey in which fans all over the world can take part for the first time.

You can vote for your favorite characters from “ One Piece” on a website until February 28th at 3:59 pm.

The -results of the “World Top 100” voting, which will appear some time later, should then clarify the question of which “One Piece” character has the most fans.
