Mr. Bungle ended their virtual Halloween concert with a thunderous cover of Van Halen’s “Loss of Control”.

The experimental rock / metal band tweeted a clip of the performance. The teaser shows frontman Mike Patton nailing David Lee Roth’s signature high notes and heavy vibrato as his bandmates knock out of the house Women and children first Spur.

Van Halen fans will likely notice a visual homage to the band’s late guitarist: Anthrax ‘Scott Ian plays the song’s riff on a replica of Eddie Van Halen’s signature “Shark” ax.

“Loss of Control” appeared as an encore to Mr. Bungle’s 12 song “The Night” you Came home! – Set that also included covers of Seals & Crofts, Slayer, Circle Jerks, Stormtroopers of Death, and The Mr. Rogers Titellied.

The band recently released their first album in 21 years. The mad rage of the Easter bunny demonstration, a re-recording of their self-released demo cassette from 1986. The current lineup includes Patton and his colleagues Trey Spruance (guitar) and Trevor Dunn (bass), as well as Ian and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo.

After his death from cancer on October 6th, Eddie Van Halen received frequent accolades. The Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame recently announced that they will include a special salute to the virtuoso with “multiple guitar gods” at the 2020 ceremony.

Former bandmate David Lee Roth released a new song dedicated to the late virtuoso. “Hey Ed, I’ll miss you,” he wrote in a text that accompanied the YouTube clip. “See you on the other side.”
