Critics and the general audience have shared wonderful thoughts on this Find Forrester, which advertises a Certified Fresh rating on the website of the rating aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. While the consensus seems to be that the movie isn’t the most groundbreaking film ever, many agree Find Forrester is heartwarming and touching.

“An intelligent, subtle, in short, remarkable attitude to growing up, being true to yourself and fighting the odds. This is also an unusual, touching story of friendship, ”wrote the BBCMichael Thomson in a 2001 recap. He highly praised both Connery and Brown: “As expected, Connery has no problem with being gruff and authoritarian but friendly: in other words, complexity suits him very well. Much more amazing is that it also fits the all-time newcomer Rob Brown, who had no acting experience and had just turned sixteen before filming. ”

Like others, Michael O’Sullivan at Die Washington Post drew comparisons between Find Forrester and director van Sant’s Chasing goodwill. In his review he praised it Find Forrester for an essential core beneath all the feel of the story, “Young working class genius and the mentor who loves him”. O’Sullivan went on to write: “Find Forrester manages to take the cerebral act of literary creation and make it exciting and even sexy. This, not avoiding Schmaltz, is Van Sant’s greatest achievement, and one that should encourage any lover of the written word. ”

As the critic Bob Bloom put it: “Find Forrester is a positive experience, a movie to sit back and enjoy. It will make you laugh, upset you at times, and even bring a tear to your eye. It is a film that envelops you like a warm hug. ”
