‘The Undoing’ Review: This HBO series is like ‘Big Little Lies’...

If Big little lies So it was a roller coaster ride full of drama, twists and turns The undo is a whole theme park. The new HBO series comes from the same brain BLL (David E. Kelley wrote the scripts for both series, and Nicole Kidman is returning in a lead role and executive producer. But during Big little lies was a slow fire that led to an explosive finale, The undo is shocking from the jump. And it doesn’t let up.

Set in New York’s hyper-rich Upper East Side, the story centers on a therapist, Grace (Kidman), and her husband, Jonathan (Hugh Grant). Grace is part of a group of mothers who are planning events for their son Henry’s private school and they have just welcomed new member Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis), who has no money and a son on a scholarship. Elena is younger than the other mothers and is not ashamed of her sexuality or her body. She wears low-cut tops and dresses and breastfeeds her newborn in the middle of a meeting, to the surprise and – I can only say it – the disgust of her fellow mothers.

But, spoiler warning, Elena goes missing at the end of the first episode and we finally learn that she was murdered. A “Whodunit?” One sort of follows, with the number one prime suspect … Jonathan disappearing without a trace.

Fascinated? Me too, and this is only the first episode. I don’t want to reveal what happens beyond that, but I guarantee you it’s a bumpy, unpredictable ride – dark, fleeting thrill at its finest.

Much of it is a will for Susanne Bier, who staged all six episodes. Her recent work is Netflix Bird feeder und AMCs The night manager, for which she won two Emmys – of course it is in her DNA to build tension.

“The thing about the suspense is that it’s very much in the details,” says Bier Shine. “It’s very much about atmosphere and about creating a world of discomfort with the audience. in the The undoNot particularly sure who to trust at any given time. You see this most between Grace and Jonathan. At some point, Grace is totally in love with Jonathan; the next time she is suspicious of his every move. Same goes for Jonathan, the perceived antagonist (and killer!) Of the first half of the show. Sometimes he feels sorry for him despite his deplorable behavior. It’s very similar Ex girlfriendwhen you couldn’t tell if Ben Affleck was a cold-blooded murderer or a victim himself.
