A “Mandalorian” film? Pedro Pascal, Jon Favreau on the future...
Less than a week after Pedro Pascal stopped producing the second season of “The Mandalorian,” the entire entertainment industry – and much of the world – has been virtually shut down in the wake of the growing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the new season of the megahit series “Star Wars” premiering on October 30th on Disney Plus, it seems that Pascal’s bounty hunter has narrowly escaped a disaster the size of a Death Star.

It didn’t feel quite that way back then.

“I haven’t really thought about it [the pandemic]because unfortunately the news alarmed me in so many different ways that it was almost just another version of it, ”said Pascal diversity during his interview for the October 14th cover story about the actor. “I can’t say I didn’t see it coming at all because I unconsciously accessed it in a way that something needs to be prepared for. What I wasn’t prepared for is “- his eyes widened -“six months. ”

Soon Pascal will put on the characteristic helmet of his character again. Executive producer and showrunner Jon Favreau said diversity that “The Mandalorian” is “on schedule” to start production in the third season of the series “before the end of the year” – after Pascal finished filming in Europe for the feature film “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talents” with Nicolas Cage.

“We assume we can go on,” said Favreau. He noted that the innovative production technology developed for “The Mandalorian” – with wall-sized video panels as a backdrop for the backdrop – puts the show in a unique position within the industry.

“We’re in very small situations and often we have a lot of characters in masks,” he said. “And we also have a lot of digital work that expands things. So we’re a show probably well armed to be flexible based on the logs that emerge as work reboots. ”

These methods have allowed The Mandalorian to use the same sense of space as the Star Wars feature films, while reducing the budget and space required for a TV production. The results were downright sensational. The show’s worldwide popularity – thanks in no small part to instant pop culture icon Baby Yoda – resulted in a massive growth in subscribers for Disney Plus to over 60.5 million worldwide in less than a year. Within weeks of launching the service last November, “The Mandalorian” became the new “Star Wars” standard carrier – especially after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” the Skywalker saga with nine of the lowest-revenue Disney Skywalker films -Features had completed and downright detested by many “Star Wars” fans.

In a February call for earnings, Disney’s then CEO Bob Iger said that following the premiere of The Mandalorian in season two, “the opportunity for an IV” will be included in upcoming seasons [the show] with more characters and the ability to steer those characters in their own direction in relation to series. In other words, expect The Mandalorian to spawn its own creative universe, Star Wars.

When Favreau was asked about this possibility last month, he was a little more cautious.

“I love the world of ‘Star Wars’ because on the one hand there is a familiarity with this subgenre, but there is also tremendous flexibility in which path to go and which genres to explore within that subgenre,” said Favreau. “As we meet new characters and start making our progress, from a manufacturing perspective, how this technology can be used, we begin to explore where we could go.”

Favreau has allowed Lucasfilm to be more responsive to the mood of the audience regarding the show due to the faster metabolism of the TV production. “And we could start expanding on what we do and our ambitions of what characters we want to follow,” he said.

The filmmaker also said his experience as inaugural director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Iron Man and Iron Man 2 influenced his prospects for the future of The Mandalorian.

“I learned a lot from my experience at Marvel where it was very organic about how it would turn out,” he said. “They look for larger storylines and characters that might come together, but also smaller stories of individual characters that might come off [on their own thing]. The key here is to keep the quality and never scale to the point where we lose sight of what’s important to us and what people like about the show. ”

The first Disney Plus series produced by Marvel Studios, “WandaVision” starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, is due to premiere later this year. More will follow in 2021, and Marvel chief executive Kevin Feige has announced that their storylines will intertwine with the theater performances by Marvel Studios.

Could that also happen with “The Mandalorian”?

“The line is now blurring,” said Favreau. “You see things that you would only have seen in the cinema when streaming, and I think it could also go the other way.”

Whether this means Pascal’s tight-lipped bounty hunter could end up on a movie screen remains a tempting, if uncertain, possibility. Favreau said he was in no rush to push the show beyond a streaming series. “But we are definitely open to it,” he added, “and we are excited to see where the story takes us and have this flexibility – because there are now no rules.”

“Technology always offers new ways to tell stories in new ways,” he added. “It is a very exciting time to be doing this and I am very grateful that due to the nature of the technology we are dealing with, we are able to work remotely. So we’re still trying to move forward and keep the ball rolling, even though it was a challenging time for everyone. ”

As for Pascal, the actor said he would “love” to make a “Mandalorian” film, but he hasn’t heard a discussion about one.

“I think the work is so beautiful that I would love it if it was held up by a great canvas experience,” he said. “But it seems to be working so well that I’m also not sure if it’s something I want to corrupt through some kind of change, you know? I mean, I know for sure that the challenge can be met. It’s not that these people don’t have the experience. If someone can do it, he can! ”
