Siemens mobility will deliver its high-speed trains (Velaro), high-capacity regional train groups (Desiro), and freight locomotives (Vectron).
A safe and reliable signaling system based on the latest computer-based interlocking technology and European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2, as well as a power supply system that provides efficient and continuous power, will be installed. Moreover, Siemens will provide and integrate the latest communication, safety and security systems. which will create an enjoyable experience for the passengers.
Advantages of the new line
The 660-kilometre line connecting the Red Sea to the Mediterranean will create a Suez Canal-type link on the rails. This line will transport up to 30 million people annually and save up to 50 percent of travel time. The electrified line will reduce carbon emissions by 70% compared to the current transportation of cars and buses.
For the first line of the project, the alliance will directly create more than 15,000 jobs, with an additional 3,800 jobs started by Egyptian suppliers and indirectly through the broader Egyptian economy.
