Stanford University of America recently released a list of “the top 2% of the world’s scientists” most cited in various disciplines, and they number about 160,000 scientists from 149 countries, based on the Scopus database in 22 scientific disciplines and 176 subspecialties for researchers who have published no less than 5 papers. It is noteworthy that Stanford University is a private American research university that was founded in 1885 and that Silicon Valley was launched in the sixties of the last century.

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the list contained scientists from different universities and listed them in the following order: 48 from Cairo University, 38 from the National Research Center, 31 from Alexandria University, 30 from Zagazig University, 24 from Ain Shams University 24 from Mansoura University, 19 from Assiut University, 13 from Tanta University, 12 from Benha University, 12 from Sohag University, 10 from the Metallurgical Research Center, 9 from Menoufia University, and 8 scientists each from Helwan University and Kafr El Sheikh University, And the University of the Suez Canal, 7 from Beni Suef University, 6 scientists each from Minia University, the Petroleum Research Institute, the Egyptian British University, 5 scientists each from the Egyptian Japanese University, Zewail City, and 4 scientists each from South Valley University and Fayoum University , 3 from Nile University, two scientists from Aswan University, Scientific Research City, Damanhur University, Port Said University, National Institute of Oceanography, Damietta University, and one scientist each from Future University, New Valley University, Pharos University, Suez University, and Theodore Institute Bilhars, and from Sadat University.

He added that we should be proud of our scholars included in this list, especially Dr. Qabil Abdel Nabi from Tanta University, who ranked 4427, Dr. Ali Bahrawi, may God have mercy on him, from Beni Suef University, who ranked 7752, Dr. Abu Al-Ela Hassanein from Cairo University, ranked 11534, and Dr. Atia Ferjani from Zagazig University ranked 11889, and Dr. Ibrahim Abbas from Sohag University ranked 12384 in the world and as the top five scholars on the list.

He noted that this evaluation is based on citations by scientists, the Hirsch index, one of the indicators for measuring scientific productivity for researchers, the modified Hirsch index for co-authoring, and the quotes from research published in different authoring sites.
