The Minister reviewed a number of joint projects that are being implemented; Such as the two projects to develop signaling systems on the Cairo / Alexandria line with a length of 208 km, and the development of signaling systems on the Assiut / Naga Hammadi line, with a length of 180 km, which are implemented by the “Spanish Thales” company, and the latest developments related to the manufacture and supply of 6 new trains, which the authority signed The National Railway of Egypt with the “Spanish Talgo” company; As the first train is scheduled to be delivered to Egypt in March 2021, the minister called on the Spanish side to pressurize the supply schedule for the new trains.
The two sides discussed aspects of future cooperation. Where the Spanish ambassador conveyed the desire of the Spanish company “Talgo” to cooperate with the Egyptian side in the manufacture and supply of 6 new sleeper trains; Where the Minister stressed the importance of these trains to support the fleet of sleeping cars on the railway.
The Spanish side expressed its desire to cooperate with the Tunnels Authority in a project to modernize (23) trains for the first line of the subway (Heloun – Al Marj) through the alliance of the Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation and the Spanish CAF Company, while providing the necessary funding for this project, as Eng. Kamel Al Wazir confirmed that the ministry Has a plan to modernize all trains of the first and second lines (20 air-conditioned trains in the first line and 4 air-conditioned trains in the second line are currently operating, and 6 new trains have been contracted); To become all air-conditioned trains, like the third line, to provide a high-quality service to the public, and that the project to modernize the current mobile units of the metro is presented to all international companies; Including the Mitsubishi-CAF alliance, and the company that will be selected will cooperate with Nirk in this field. In order to meet the requirements of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, then to start exporting metro and rail vehicles to Arab and African countries.
