The Sudanese Foreign Minister in charge, Omar Qamar al-Din, confirmed that Sudan is an integral part of the Renaissance Dam file and has no interest in dealing with Egypt or Ethiopia in private.

In an interview with “France 24”, Gamaruddin said that Sudan is not an agent of Egypt or Ethiopia in the issue of the Renaissance Dam.

In response to a question about Khartoum’s coordination with Cairo in this file, the Sudanese minister stressed that his country does not coordinate with anyone except to the extent of its interests, adding, “Sudan is not a mediator or a spectator, but rather an integral part of the Renaissance Dam file.”

He continued, “We discuss, dialogue and negotiate because Sudan has interests in the issue of the Renaissance Dam,” stressing that they negotiate only for the sake of their interests, whether in this file or otherwise.

The President of Ethiopia, Sahle Zuweid, said that her country will start generating electricity from the Renaissance Dam during the next 12 months,

Ethiopia ended the initial filling of the reservoir of the Renaissance Dam last July, without reaching an agreement with Egypt and Sudan, which angered the two countries and affected the course of negotiations.
