GORDON COUNTY, Georgia – The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office is “heartbroken” after the death of a former MP linked to COVID-19.
Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston reported the news of Captain Michael “Mike” Garigan’s death on Sunday morning, saying he had died of medical complications from COVID-19.
According to Ralston, Garrigan has worked with the Sheriff’s Office for over 30 years as an assistant, detective and other positions. Garrigan was most recently the Commanding Officer of the Prison Division.
“He has risen through the ranks regularly and has been decorated numerous times for his bravery and excellent police work,” said Ralston.

Garrigan also worked as a DARE coordinator for several years in the 1990s, a job that allowed him to positively influence hundreds of children he met and taught.
“He was a fighter. He was known for his love of the sport and he devoted countless hours to coaching youth teams, ”said Ralston. “Mike loved children. He liked people. ”
Ralston described the fallen officer as a “devoted peace officer, devoted Christian, and loving family man.”
“My team and I loved Mike and will be sorely missed,” he said.
