Diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea were added to the existing list of COVID-19 symptoms today, which means a person should be tested for COVID-19.
Gastrointestinal symptoms have been discussed as a potential symptom of the virus since the beginning of this year. A comment in Gut, a British Medical Journal publication published in April, highlights evidence from China that some COVID-19 patients had gastrointestinal problems but no respiratory symptoms.
A Queensland Health spokeswoman said the list of symptoms was updated based on health advice from the federal government.
Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea were added to the United States’ symptom list for COVID-19 earlier this year.
The World Health Organization also listed diarrhea as a potential symptom.
Queensland Health urged anyone who had any of the symptoms to get tested for COVID-19 and stay home until the results are in.
