Dr. Abdel Nasser, Director of the Infection Risk Preparedness Unit, the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, said that Egypt has the ability to produce corona vaccines and the World Health Organization is working with Egypt and helping it in that mission.

He added that what we care about in the organization is to provide vaccines for low- and middle-income people, and therefore we do this in Egypt and all countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, which is what we are working on through the Kovacs facility, adding that there is no major mutation in the Corona virus, but minor mutations revealed by research.

He explained that there are 42 vaccines that have reached the stage of clinical trials, 10 of them are in the final stage of trials to ensure safety and efficacy, and we expect vaccines to be available at the end of this year.

For her part, Dr. Rana Al-Hajjah, Director of the Program Department, the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, said that at the beginning of the new year there will be specific quantities of the Coronavirus vaccine for the most priority groups, including the elderly, the most dangerous groups, and medical teams.

This came during the press conference that the WHO Regional Office is now holding by video link, to discuss the regional situation of the Corona pandemic, the increasing trend of cases of infection and measures that should be taken urgently during the winter months.

The conference will be attended by Dr. Rana Al-Hajjah, Director of Program Management, WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr, Director of the Infection Risk Preparedness Unit, WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean, and Dr. Pierre Nepeth, Director of the Information Management Program at the Emergency Program, WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean .
