It seems: Cyprus will soon allow tourists from Israel to enter. Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi met with Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodolidis and defined the meeting as one in which “progress on significant issues” had been achieved. Among other things, the two discussed the Israeli government’s request to open Cyprus to tourism from Israel.

The Foreign Ministry says that the Cypriot minister views the issue positively and will check it with his prime minister when he expects to receive a positive answer in the coming days.

Sources involved in tourism in Cyprus have confirmed that efforts are underway to persuade the Cypriot Ministry of Health to allow Israelis to enter in light of morbidity data indicating an improvement trend. Although the tourist season to the neighboring islands is coming to an end, it still has to be assumed that those looking to go on vacation, in a destination closer to Israel (less than an hour flight) will take the opportunity to venture to Cyprus. On the small island the hotels and tourism business are begging for tourists.

The number diagnosed in Corona in Cyprus stands at 3,636 cases. The death toll reached 25. In October there was an increase in the number of diagnoses on the island and in recent days it has moderated towards about 100 new diagnoses per day. Cyprus has a population of about 1.2 million.

Cyprus allows the entry of tourists from certain countries according to a rating affected by the morbidity data in each country. In the ranking A, ie countries from which the following do not need to present Corona test results are Germany, Latvia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. In the B ranking are countries whose next are required to present corona tests done 72 hours before the flight including Greece, Denmark, Italy, Poland and the UK. Category C includes countries from which citizens can enter with special permission when they are required to undergo 14 days of isolation in addition to the presentation of an up-to-date corona test. These countries include France, Hungary, Egypt, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and others. The lists are updated once a week and the expectation is that in the next update, Israel will also be included in the list, presumably subject to the presentation of a corona test at the entrance and without the obligation to isolate.

In the lists of the Ministry of Health in Israel for red and green countries, Cyprus appears as a green country, meaning that those entering Israel from it should not enter isolation. This list is updated once every two weeks and is expected to be updated early next week.
