50 African diplomats on anti-Covid-19 visit to China’s Sinopharm

China’s largest and fifth human vaccine research, development and production company in the world, Sinopharm, was visited on Thursday by ambassadors and high-ranking diplomats from 50 African countries to deepen cooperation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and a better China Africa build health community.

Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, Sierra Leone’s ambassador to China, seems impressed with what he has seen so far: “This visit is so impressive and enlightening. We have learned so much about the size of China, how China is moving forward and moving this great nation forward, and also making Africa healthy and safe. I believe that this cooperation can strengthen Africa all the more, the more it can strengthen this relationship. ”

The diplomats toured the vaccine manufacturing exhibition center and laboratory to catch up on the latest clinical trials with the company’s Covid-19 vaccine – Phase III for a potential candidate in ten countries, namely the United Arab Emirates, Peru and Argentina. Over 50,000 volunteers take part in these experiments.

James Kimonyo, the Rwandan Ambassador to China, sees the opportunities as positive: “It is reassuring to see how big the facility is, how much experience this organization, this company – [a] Sinopharm’s subsidiary has accumulated over time and developed vaccines for polio, yellow fever, smallpox and many other diseases that have been treated or prevented with the vaccines developed by this organization. So for us it’s an eye opener. It’s comforting and we hope to get the vaccines soon. ”

China’s Covid-19 aid in Africa

Since the coronavirus outbreak in Africa, the Chinese government has provided over 400 tons of medical supplies to the continent and nearly 200 medical experts have been deployed to train more than 20,000 African medical staff.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said in May that the development of Chinese Covid-19 vaccines would be a “global public good” – accessible and affordable for developing countries, especially in Africa.
