                Germany sounded the alarm after the high number of Coronavirus infections, warning of an "uncontrolled spread" of the epidemic across the country, which was still so far the least affected by the pandemic compared to neighboring European countries. Spread ‘out of control’

For his part, Lothar Feller, Director of the Robert Koch Institute for Disease Control and Prevention in Germany, warned of an “uncontrolled spread” of the Corona virus in the country. “We do not know how the situation in Germany will develop in the coming weeks,” he said.

Feller added, “We may record more than ten thousand cases a day, and the virus may spread out of control,” expressing at the same time his hope that Germany will be able to avoid this threshold.

He explained that “injuries are increasing in all regions, and the majority of them were recorded in (inside) Germany.” They did not come from tourists returning from holidays abroad, unlike the first wave of injuries in March.

High number of injuries

The Robert Koch Institute on its website indicated that the total number of injuries increased to 310 thousand and 144 Wednesday, an increase of 4,058 from the previous day. The number of injuries exceeded the threshold of four thousand for the first time on April 11, during the height of the isolation measures, according to data recorded by the French News Agency.

This rise comes as autumn holidays will begin soon in a large part of the country and with the call of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government to limit travel.

And the number of cities and districts in which infections exceed the number specified by the authorities and are therefore threatened by local isolation measures, continues to rise.

Curfews in Berlin and Frankfurt

With an average of more than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants within a week, which according to the authorities’ rules requires new restrictions, some districts of Berlin and Bremen, as well as the districts to the northwest and near Stuttgart, have fallen into this category.

In the face of a worrying increase in the number of new infections, Berlin and the Frankfurt Financial Center, where the infection rate is approaching 50 per 100,000, announced Tuesday the imposition of curfews and restrictions on social communication.

In the German capital, most shops, as well as all restaurants and bars, must be closed from eleven in the evening until six in the morning from Saturday to October 31 at the earliest.

More restrictions

The capital’s municipality has also decided to severely limit social contact. In this context, gatherings outside between 23:00 and 6:00 a.m. should not exceed five people. During the day, a maximum of fifty people are permitted.

However, restrictions remain more severe regarding gatherings inside, as no more than ten people are allowed to gather during the day, after this number was 25 a week ago.

German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said Wednesday that the new rise in cases, “especially in some major cities,” is no longer “attributed to isolated foci, but rather raises fears of a wider spread of the virus.”
