Yesterday, Monday, the Czech Republic and Slovakia announced that they will this week impose a state of emergency to address the sharp increase in the number of people infected with the emerging coronavirus in both countries.
“The situation is very dangerous, and I think that we must take very drastic and bold decisions,” said Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic, at the conclusion of a meeting of the crisis cell charged with fighting the pandemic in his country.
It is assumed that the Cabinet will agree to declare a state of emergency during a meeting to be held tomorrow, Wednesday, to be the second time that the government has resorted to this radical measure since the beginning of the outbreak.
In turn, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis announced that his government will hold an extraordinary meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, to impose a state of emergency.
Under the measures that the Slovak government will adopt, all sporting, cultural and religious activities will be banned from October 1.
No wedding or funeral ceremony will be allowed unless all participants show health certificates proving that they are not infected with the virus.
Restaurants, bars and cafes will close at 22:00, and people who do not live under the same roof and want to approach each other less than two meters while outside will have to wear a protective mask.
Wearing protective masks from the virus is a mandatory measure in Slovakia in closed public places, but not outdoors.
And Slovakia, with a population of 5.4 million, has recorded 9,343 cases of the new Corona virus, of whom 44 have died.
Last Friday, the country recorded its highest daily death toll, with 552 injuries.
As for the Czech Republic, with a population of 10.7 million, the number of people infected with the virus reached 65,313, of whom 615 died.
