Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, celebrated yesterday the 15th anniversary of its first flights between Abu Dhabi and Brussels.

The company indicated in a statement yesterday that since the launch of the flights on October 31, 2005, Etihad Airways has transported about two million passengers between the two capitals, to meet the strong demand for business and leisure trips from point to point between Abu Dhabi and Brussels.

The company also transported large numbers of passengers via Abu Dhabi to and from Brussels. The most popular destinations were Muscat in Oman, Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand, Delhi and Mumbai in India, and Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan.

Between 2011 and 2015, Etihad Airways increased its flights from three to eight flights per week. Since 2016, the company has operated a daily flight, which has been reduced to three flights per week, due to restrictions imposed to confront the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The flights between the two cities are operated on board the two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

“For 15 years, our flights between Abu Dhabi and Brussels have provided a strong connection between the two regions, which has provided opportunities for business and tourism travel to and from Brussels to Abu Dhabi and beyond,” said Anne Ramacers, Director of Etihad Airways in Belgium.

“We are proud to continue connecting Belgium with the world, and we hope to resume our daily services once travel restrictions are eased,” she added. In June this year, we launched the (Etihad Health and Wellness) program, which is a comprehensive program to maintain the safety and health of passengers, so that they can travel with us with peace of mind. And all of our travel tickets now include global health insurance (COVID-19). We are pleased to be able to preserve this important link between the UAE and Europe during this difficult period.
