Corona helicopter will fly again from Monday – HVZeeland

By: Roland de Jong

MIDDELBURG – From Monday, a special ambulance helicopter will be deployed again to distribute corona patients from intensive care units (ICs) to the various hospitals in our country.

This spring, the IC trauma helicopter ‘Lifeliner 5’ called in life after the ICs of different hospitals had reached their capacity limits. The helicopter also landed several times at the Admiral De Ruyter Hospital (Adrz) in Goes in the ZorgSaam hospital in Terneuzen, sometimes about patients to take away and sometimes on patients pick up.

Now that the number of corona patients in hospitals is also increasing sharply, it is now also necessary to redistribute patients among the different hospitals in our country. Sometimes patients are transported by ambulances, but from Monday this will also be done by helicopter.

The corona helicopter (type H145) flies from Volkel Air Base in Noord-Brabant. The helicopter has been made available by the ANWB Medical Air Assistance (MAA). It is a spare helicopter. The National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) will determine which patients will be transferred.

On Friday, a total of 345 COVID patients were in intensive care in our country. A total of 1,208 patients with corona were in hospital. Nationally, nearly 8,000 positive corona tests were reported on Friday. The total since February now stands at 211,938. Nationally, 85 new hospital admissions and 16 deaths were reported. The total number of admissions since the first outbreak now stands at 13,703, the number of confirmed deaths stands at 6,708.

Current situation in Zeeland
In Zeeland, 76 positive corona tests and two hospital admissions were reported today. The total number of reported infections in Zeeland since the outbreak in March now stands at 2,144, the number of deaths at 76 and the number of hospital admissions at 162. On Friday, 13 patients with the corona virus were admitted to the hospital in Terneuzen. The current number of patients at the Adrz is not known.
